Yorkshire Seniors Golf2023

Welcome to the Yorkshire County Seniors Home Page
2022 has been a great year for the Senior Management team of Andy King (Team Captain), Garry Cuthbert (Team Secretary), John Grimbelby (Chairman of Selectors) and Jonathan Plaxton (YUGC Hon Secretary) together with the squad of players.

The Yorkshire Senior team won the Northern Counties League title, The Northern Counties Senior Qualifying event and The English County Finals. This clean sweep of titles has left the county in a very strong position going forwards into 2023 with a squad of approximately 24 players who will be consistently fighting for a place in the starting line up of 12 players for regular county matches.

However, our quest to continually recruit the next generation of players goes on and as such we actively seek out and consider for selection to represent the County, Seniors golfers who are of 55 years of age on the day of the competitions/matches and are members of clubs affiliated to the YUGC and who have a handicap of 2.0 or below at the current time.

Our fixtures run from May to October each year and details of the 2023 matches can be found by clicking here.

Senior County matches consist of 9 hole Greensomes in the morning followed by 18 holes 4BBB in the afternoon. Do not be fooled by the relaxed format, these are highly competitive events.

Players who represent the County on 10 occasions in League matches are presented with ‘Senior County Colours’ in the form of County Tie and Blazer.

A Pre-Season meeting will be arranged in April for current, new and prospective County players. Entry to the event, which may have to be limited, will be available by invitation and any prospective newly qualified player may contact the Team Secretary with his details to be considered.

There are a series of events for senior golfers that the team selectors continually monitor in order to assess form and identify potential new squad members. Key events are The Yorkshire Senior Stroke Play Championship, The Yorkshire Senior Match Play Championship, The Northern Counties Senior Stroke Play Championship, The Home Nations Stroke Play Events and various England Order of Merit Events held around the country. A full list of all these events can be found by clicking here
