As we look forward to the 2022 season the YUGC Senior team has new management. We must congratulate Andy King (Garforth) on being appointed Team Captain alongside Garry Cuthbert (Alwoodley) who becomes the Team Secretary and Administrator. John Grimbleby will remain on the selection Committee with Andy and Gary and they are to be joined by Jonathan Plaxton.

We consider, for selection to represent the County, Seniors golfers who are of 55 years of age on the day of the competitions/matches and are members of clubs affiliated to the YUGC and who have a handicap of 2.0 or below at the current time.

Our fixtures run from May to October each year and details of the 2022 matches can be found by clicking here. County Seniors matches consist of 9 hole Greensomes in the morning followed by 18 holes 4BBB in the afternoon. All matches are played off scratch and there are 12 players in a team, in total 24 players represented the County in 2021 in League and Friendly matches.

Players who represent the County on 10 occasions in League matches are presented with ‘Senior County Colours’ in the form of County Tie and Blazer.

A Pre-Season meeting will be arranged in April for current, new and prospective County players. Entry to the event, which may have to be limited, will be available by invitation and any prospective newly qualified player may contact the Team Secretary with his details to be considered.

The Seniors County Championship is a 36 competition played over 2 days. The event this year is being held at Selby Golf Club on 13th and 14th June. You can enter online or download and submit the Entry Form.

We currently play three friendly matches against Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire and compete in the Northern Counties Seniors League which was formed in 2011 with matches against Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham. The competition is very strong and we are the current League Champions having won the title last season.

The six EGU Northern Counties compete for the Seniors Six Man Team Championship which is a 36 hole stroke play event held over one day with the best five scores each round counting for the title.  As winners at Wearside last year Yorkshire went on to represent the Northern Counties Seniors at the English Seniors County Finals at Grange Park Golf Club in October 2021 but were unable to maintain the League form we had set during the season and did not retain the title won in 2019 at Effingham, Surrey.

The EGU Qualifying event this year is to be held at Pleasington Golf Club on Tuesday 31st August  with the English Finals at Rothley Park Golf Club on 4th/6th October.

We hope that our strongest players will be able to make themselves available for selection in all the Northern Counties League matches and the Team Championship in September. To be considered for selection players should aim to play in:

Yorkshire Seniors Championship
13th and 14th June – Selby Golf Club – Enter online

Northern Counties Seniors Championship
19th  and 20th July –Ponteland Golf Club – Enter online

In addition performances in major Senior Championships outside the County will be taken into consideration.
