Yorkshire v Durham

Yorkshire were fortunate to be able to take one of their strongest teams up to the Durham City Golf Club, for the final league match of the 2015 season, as there was all to play for. The “old enemy” Lancashire held the lead going into the last round, but only by a slender margin, on match scores. So the team, and their supporters, knew that a win, and by a large margin, were needed to secure the title again. The morning foursomes set the tone, with three convincing wins, two matches halved, and only one lost, and lunch was taken with a 4-2 lead. More effort was needed in the afternoon singles, and the team responded magnificently. The lead match was lost on the 18th green, but with one other match ending as a half, and all the others as wins for Yorkshire, a final score of 14.5 – 4.5 was achieved. The league title now depended on the match between Lancashire and Cheshire – could Cheshire, on a home course, prevent Lancashire from getting a large win. Finally the news arrived, and Yorkshire rejoiced on learning that Cheshire had beaten Lanscashire, and the white rose County were Champions for the 14th time.
