Yorkshire U14 Boys Lose to Durham U14 Boys
This was our first match for our U14 Boys and was between Durham at Billingham GC on a sunny, dry day with little breeze. The course was presented well considering the conditions being so dry with greens looking good.
We had a team of eight, ages ranging from 11 – 13 playing and most for their first time. In the morning we played nine holes of foursomes. The Durham front two pairings got off to a good start and our boys found it difficult to pull back especially as they were only playing 9 holes.
The final two pairings faired better and managed to win both games 1Up.
Lunch score Durham 2 – Yorkshire 2
So, all to play for in the afternoon. After nine holes all the games were evenly matched, and scores were roughly even although very close in all but two! Sadly, a couple of games we were Up in switched the other way over the closing demanding holes of Billingham allowing Durham Boys to take the honours.
Final score Durham 6.5 – Yorkshire 5.5
Although the result did not go our way I was very pleased for the way our Boys played a strange and tough course with plenty of blind shots and it certainly was a great experience for them which all bodes well for 2027. The match as always was played in the true spirit of the game with both teams embracing our lovely game and gaining new friendships.
