Yorkshire Win Final League Match Against Cumbria
This was played at Richmond GC on a reasonable day, no rain to speak of, sunny intervals, but a strong breeze which made it feel cool and became stronger in the afternoon.
Some of our main boys were not available due to various other commitments so we brought in a few new boys in TJ Berry, Isaac Day, Dan Kirby, Cian Lowry and Lewi O’Rourke.
In the foursomes we sent out our undefeated pairing of Seth Topham and George Walker up against Cumbria’s top pair of Aiden Blythe and Owen Ridley and it turned out to be a great game swinging back and forth to finish tied. Poor Ollie & TJ Berry did not have their best of days and were beaten comfortably 5&4. Zac & Lewi were up in their game from the start and won 3&2. New pairings of Cian & Isaac and Jack & Dan won both their games comfortably.

In the afternoon singles Zac was up against Aiden, and he took command by halfway going 3Up and then Zac pulled it back to be tied after thirteen. A bogey on sixteen by Zac gave Aiden a 1Up lead, however a ball out of bounds on the last gave the hole to Zac and a tied game. Seth was leading by the turn at 1Up then 2Up after ten holes, but then he bogeyed three holes from thirteen to go 2Down. Two birdies from Seth tied the match playing the last and both players stuck it within a metre of the hole to each claim birdies to finish tied. Our remaining eight players all won comfortably with Ollie claiming victory 7&6 which included a hole in one on the seventh.

A good win, especially by our newcomers to the U18 Squad so all looks good for 2027 seeing we are losing 12 players this year due to them attaining the age of 18. My thanks go to Will Bracha our Boys Captain who is now studying in the States. Also, to Harry Richmond and Oscar Knowles who have also crossed the pond to further their golfing studies. Harry Phillips, Zac Ayre and Archie Palmer who played an important part in becoming English Boys County Champions 2026. Finally, thanks to Sam McIntyre who played a part in our Northern Counties League win for the third year running.
I wish all the boys who have been part of Team Yorkshire over the years all the very best in their next chapter of their journey.
