2025 U16 & U14 Championships
This year we visited Doncaster GC for these two Boys Championships, where in 2015 a boy by the name of Dan Bradbury won his first major championship in winning the Yorkshire Boys U16 Amateur Championship and look where Dan is today!
We had a wonderful day, and the weather was kind to us starting with overcast skies, temperature just right for golf, then in the afternoon the sun peered through the cloud, and it was hot! The course was in superb condition and is a good test by any standard with the boys complementing it.
U16 Boys Amateur Championship
By lunch time there were 6 boys within 2 shots of each other at the top with 3 leading at 3 over, Charles Wright, George Cooper and James Watkin. It appeared we would be in for a terrific afternoon; however, I think the heat may have got to some with only Charles improving on his morning score. Charles played some great golf in the afternoon with his iron play being very accurate and putter working well. He kept his nerve and finished 3, 4, 4 to take the championship by 4 shots.
Congratulations to Charles on a very impressive display of good golf.
U14 Boys Amateur Championship
This championship was close throughout the day with 3 players within 2 shots of each other at lunch and leading the way was Eddie Claughton form Sand Moor GC on 3 over. This title could have gone to anyone, and the lead was switching after every hole. It came down to the final two holes between 3 players, Zach Sloanes, Albie Walker and Jack Balderson. Zach sadly bogeyed the final hole to finish on 13 over par, so it was now with Jack and Albie, where on the seventeenth Albie missed the green left and all looked done for him, however he played a superb wedge shot to hole it for a two! Jack chipped and managed a par, so he was now 2 shots back of Albie going down the last. They both missed the green left and both and reasonable chips with Jack holing and Albie missing, but still with the bogey he won by one shot.
Congratulations to Albie on some great golf on a tough course.
What a fabulous day the boys had with some outstanding golf played. A big thank you to all our competitors who all conducted themselves very well indeed and played the game in the true spirit that we are so accustomed to!
