U16 Boys (Mixed Ages) beat Lancashire
This match was played at Wilpshire GC set in the hills above Blackburn. The previous day was torrential rain for 24 hours and it looked very unlikely that the match would be played, but alas the sun came out on the day with a slight breeze, but no rain and the course was in tremendous condition considering, very little casual water.
As this was the mixed ages match ( 4 xU14, 4 x U15 and 4 x U16) we decided to play some new faces to give them an outing an experience county match golf.
The foursomes were exciting to say the least with four of the six games going all the way to the eighteenth and producing some sparkling golf. We lost one, tied two and won one so with the lunch time score standing at 4 – 2 there was still plenty to play for in the afternoon.
Jonty Butcher led the way playing some terrific golf to win comfortably 5&3. Benjy Saia was second out and again he was in good form winning his game 5&4. Dan Henbest had a tough match managing to take it to the last 1 down and sadly loose 2Down. Joel Johnson got off to a tremendous start and was 4 Up after seven and kept it going to win 3&2 with Harry Phillips again Winning 5&3. Max Hollinghurst although not playing his best managed to win his game 2&1. Ewan had an easy game winning 6&4. Four of our last five players were not on top form and three loosing with George Cooper tied. In our last game Joe Wade managed to bring home a point winning his 3&1.
Frank and I were delighted with the boys performance overall and all bodes well for the future.
Another good win for Team Yorkshire.
