Yorkshire U16 Boys Lose to Cheshire
We travelled to Eaton GC near Chester for our final U16 match against Cheshire on a cooler day after all the heat of the last few days and with a little light rain in the morning. We had a team of 10 players including one new member, George Cooper from Rotherham GC.
We had mixed fortunes in the morning foursomes where we could have been 3 – 2 at lunch, but instead the match score went the other way due to us not being able to halve two games on the last!
We came out after lunch full of positivity and started out well against a very string and improving Cheshire side. Sadly, one of their players took ill at lunch so Evan had a W/O for 1 point so match score was now even with 9 games to follow. At the halfway stage of nine holes Cheshire were up in 4, Yorkshire up in 2 and with two tied it still could have gone any way. Our first player Alfie was up against it playing Dan Hayes who got it round in 4under to win 7&6! The toughest game was between their Todd McKie and Will Hixon with both being under par on completion of their game, Todd 5 under and Will 2 under and Todd winning 3&2. Our players Tom, Luke and U16 Champion Benjy came out winners, but Cheshire were just too good on the day with a final score of 9 – 6.
We can’t win them all, but so much was learnt by our players on the day and we are still Team Yorkshire, win or lose!
