U16 Boys lose @ Eastham Lodge

U16 Boys lose to Cheshire

This was our final match of the season and played against Cheshire U16’s at Eastham Lodge GC on the Wirral where it was a cool and windy day, with some light showers, but fortunately we missed the heavy rain which arrived as we left.

We kept the first three pairings in the foursomes the same as for the Durham U16 match. This time our first pair of Dan and Will were up against tough opposition in Cole Self and Ellis Courtnell, but they put up a good fight sadly to lose 4&3. Archie and Oscar had a terrific game with there only being one in it the whole way arriving at the eighteenth tied, but with a good birdie on the last from the Cheshire pair they lost 1Down. Ethan and Sam’s game was not the best, but they took command early doors to win 2Up. Charles and George didn’t get going and with no birdies in the game they lost 4&3. In the penultimate game James and Seth were never up and managed to have five pars in the last five to bring the game back and finish tied. Our final game of Kye and Joe was very scrappy but managed to win 2&1. Result at lunch 3.5 – 2.5 to Cheshire.

In the afternoon singles Dan was against Cole and played tremendously well, but sadly to lose 4&3. Will had a great game against Ellis and was 3under for his round winning 2&1. Archie played well in his game, but his opponent, like Will was 3under so lost 3&2. Oscar played well against his man and the game was tied most of the way and with Oscar letting it slip on sixteen and eighteen he lost 2Down. Ethan’s opponent fired three birdies to be 3Down at the turn, but he pulled it back to being 1Down at sixteen and with a birdie from the Cheshire boy at seventeen he lost 2&1. Sam was in the main down most of the way, then with a birdie and three pars to finish he won 1Up. Charles went 1Up at the first then lost it on the second and with a bit of a messy round from both players they managed a tie. George didn’t play his best and lost his game 1Down. James was really up against it with his op[ponent, Jonah playing good golf going out in 1under to be 4Up and from thereon he could not pull it back to lose 5&3. Both Seth and Kye played well in their games for them both to win 2Up. In our final game Joe was on good form and managed to close his game out 5&4.

Not the best of days for Team Yorkshire, but a good learning experience for the boys with plenty to take away and work on this winter ready to start 2025 well. Although we lost, I learnt from their display, and I know the boys will work hard as always to ensure they are better next year. It was good experience for the boys who all now have had a taste of what county golf is about.

Result Yorkshire 8 – Cheshire 10
