U16 Boys Beat Cheshire U16 Boys
This match took us to Stockport and Houldsworth GC on a very warm and sunny day, but with a strong breeze around mid-morning. The course was tight and of course very burnt as they all are this year, however the greens were good although be a little slower than usual. Once again, we had some new faces appearing in Harry Baxter (Fulford) and Ed Fearnley (Huddersfield).
Our first pairing of Elliot and TJ both played well but were up against a good pairing of Jack & Jayden with the game tied after nine holes, however they struggled in the back nine and with three bogeys let the Cheshire pair go on to win 4&3. The two Dan’s, Dan Kirby & Dan Richards played solid golf and with only three bogeys in their game took control early doors and continued to produce a terrific win 7&6. Isaac & Max also played well and were never down in their game and went on to win 4&3. Lewi and Jack played well in their game to go 3Up at the turn and with that lead reducing to 1Up they pulled it back on thirteen with a birdie and par on fifteen to go on to win 3&2. Our last two games of U14’s found it tough going but Ed and Owen kept in control to win their game 1Up. Sadly, Dougie and Harry with a few errant shots lost their close game on the last hole 1Down.

TJ led the way in the singles starting on the first with an eagle to go 1Up, followed by a run of three birdies on four, five & six to go 5Up and with a bogey on nine took turned in 4Up. His opponent, Jack fired four birdies from hole ten to tie the game after thirteen holes, then followed a bit of a scrappy game with TJ coming out the winner 1Up. Ellio played the front nine well turning in 1Up, however a poor back nine resulted in him losing 2&1. Isaac struggled in his game losing the first five holes to be 5Down, sadly although playing well he could not reduce the deficit losing 5&4. Max played some good golf and with five birdies won his game 5&3. Lewi managed to be Up from the start and won his game 3&1. Like Lewi Jack was 1Up after the first and built on that gain finishing 2&1. The two Dan’s once again were in control of their games with both winning. Dougie was Down for most of his game, going 1Up after thirteen for which he held on to and a win of 1Up. Harry struggled and lost his game on the seventeenth 3&1. Owen struggled for the first few holes however with pars from seven to eleven and then a couple of birdies he finished his game off 6&5. Edplayed some great golf and having been 2Down after eight he battled away to turn his game round with some good golf from both players to win 2&1.

A great win from our U16’s today and all looking good for the boys going forward, playing some fine golf and in the true spirit of the game, this from both sides. Many thanks to Andrew and John of Cheshire and Houldsworth GC for a great day.
