Yorkshire U16 Boys Tie with Durham U16 Boys
We visited Beamish Park GC for this match and what a delightful course! We were warmly greeted by the Club Captain, Jim and the staff and were well looked after throughout the day. The course was in great condition, greens were good, and the weather was a little indifferent with a strong breeze blowing, sunshine and showers and cool!
Our first two games in the foursomes found it tough in the morning, but both eventually won on the last 1Up. Our third and fourth pairings had a better journey winning theirs 4&3 and 3&1 respectively. In our last game the young pairing of Jack Balderson and Albie Walker were up against it and sadly lost 4&3.
Lunch time score Yorkshire 4 – Durham 1
Our top four players in the singles had a battle and didn’t really perform to their usual standard. All four were well down after 10 holes and couldn’t pull it back. George played well and had met an inform Jake Lewis who was sinking putts from all over the green. Elliot Alcock had a great game with Andre Bethapudi with no more than 1 Up either way throughout the 18 holes and going down the last all square! A great up and down for a par 4 on the last sealed the halved game for Durham. James Watkin and Lewi battled away to finish their games on the seventeenth to win 2&1. Albie Walker was in total control of his game winning 7&6. Charles was up at halfway, but sadly let it slip to lose 2&1. At this stage the match score was Durham 6.5 – Yorkshire 7.5 so all to play for in the last game of Jack Balderson and Oscar O’Connor. Both playing the last all square where Jack lost the hole, so the overall match score was 7.5 – 7.5.
A tremendous day and all credit to Durham Boys who played well on the day to win.
