Following our win against Northumberland the title came down to the last matches and we needed to beat Durham and hope for Lancashire to beat Cheshire to win the title.
We had a strong team competing and but were 2-1 down after the first three games in the Greensomes whilst we were 1 up playing the 9th hole in both the fourth and fifth matches the Durham players secured birdies to halve the games when we looked like taking full points. With the last pair losing we finished 3- at lunch.
The afternoon started badly as our top pair Richard Jones and Johnny Lawrence lost for the second time in the day as did Andy King and Mark Lawson which is most unusual. However Gary Cuthbert and Steve Mason followed by Ian Clarke and Chris Ingham won 4/3 to leave us needing a point to secure the match. Sadly Andy Whitworth and Andy Woodhead lost the final game 4/2 and the match was halved.
News soon came through that Lancashire did there bit by beating Cheshire but having drawn our match with Durham left Lancashire as Champions on count back of games won over the season. This was a dissapointing finish to the season as we have only lost one match in the past three years but taken the title once.
