Seniors suffer narrow defeat to Cumbria at Appleby
A hot, breezy and bumpy golf course greeted Yorkshire for the first Northern Counties League match of the season at Appleby Golf Club
The conditions were a real leveller and a close game was anticipated. After the morning foursomes the game stood at 3-3.
The afternoon was an another close affair with the result in doubt right down to the last game on the course. Despite a fine birdie on the last hole by Yorkshire Captain Andy King, it was only to half the match leaving Cumbria winners overall by 10-8
Full caps were awarded for the first time to Warren Haywood who with Andy King won their greensomes and halved their fourball match
Andy Lockwood also made his full debut winning both his games in partnership with Garry Cuthbert
A disappointing start to the season but positives to take from the game into the next match away to Cheshire.
