Seniors Draw v Lancashire
The Yorkshire Senior Golf team welcomed Lancashire to Huddersfield Golf Club for an end of season clash.Lancashire needing a win to ensure they won the league championship for the 2nd year in a row so a keen game was anticipated.
A cool but breezy day with a fast running course had matters halved in the morning at 3-3 with wins from Clarke/Jones and County Champion Booth and partner Stefan Priest.
The afternoon had Lancashire take an early lead with a win in the top match but wins again from Clarkey/Jones and a win against the Lancashire Captain Gary Lacey by Wiltshire and Kitching had the White Rose in front but with Booth/Priest losing it was down to the last two matches on the course with Lancashire up in them both at 1up after 14 holes-The penultimate match remained that way until the last hole until a spectacular eagle 3 from Chris Ingham halved that game leaving one match to go.
At 1 down after 14 the Yorkshire pair of Andy King and Frank Greaves battled on and having already exchanged 7 birdies another one by King on 15th brought the game level until the 17th hole when Lancashire Champion Dale Woods hit a killer blow with a superb birdie 2 into the long par 3 giving Lancashire an unassailable lead in the overall match and the point they needed to win the League-King and Greaves both birdied the 18th to win the hole and halve a thrilling game but not enough to stop Lancashire taking the title.
The team now have to regather and prepare for the Northern Counties Team Championship at Wilmslow on the 9th September
