Boys Championship 2026
The 2026 Yorkshire Boys Amateur Championship was held at Rotherham Golf Club with once again a full entry of 72 players of differing ages ranging from 12 to 18. The weather was perfect for golf, however, did warm up considerably in the afternoon with a slight breeze.
It was great to see some of our younger players appearing on the leader board during the front nine, with some fading away over the back nine. Leader at lunch was Ollie Scott from Middlesbrough GC shooting a fine 70, level par closely followed by his England Golf Regional teammate Elliot Alcock with a 72. We then a bunch on 73 so it was all to play for in the afternoon.
Ollie bogeyed the third to go 1 over then followed three birdies at four, five and nine to be 2 under at the turn. Another birdie at eleven took him to 1 under. Tom Hartshorne had a mixed day of bogeys and birdies and sadly could not catch Ollie. Harry Richmond likewise with two 73’s! Sam McIntyre got some form back especially with the putter following our session at Ganton GC to come in with a 74 and 72. Two good rounds from a young TJ Berry of 73 & 75 were good to take joint fifth spot. Elliot who was only two behind at lunch took the turn at 1 over, only three shots off, but unfortunately could not keep the momentum going dropping shots over the last half dozen holes. Ollie had a couple of bogeys over the last few holes to finish on 1 under to take the title at the age of 16.
It was a fabulous day with some great golf as always from these talented young Yorkshire golfers. A big thank you to Rotherham GC for presenting us with a tremendous course with fabulous greens. Thanks to all the staff for making the Boys day a memorable one.
