Boys Win Against Lancashire
This was played at Pike Fold GC on a cool, showery morning with a good wind, dare I say typical Lancashire weather! We were warmly received as ever by our neighbours for our third League match of the year.
We got off to a poor start in the foursomes with both lead games struggling against tough opposition. Both Ollie & Archie and Captain Will & Oscar were never Up in their two games and sadly going down 2&1 and 3&2 respectively. New pairing of Zac and Elliot were on top form and after been 1Down early doors they pulled it back with some great golf to win 3&2. Regular pairing of Seth & George were on fire going 4Up after four holes with birdies and pars turning in 4Up and going on to win5&4. Our final pairing of Jack & Albie were 2Down at the turn and made a bit of a fightback to be level after fifteen sadly to then lose 1Down.
Lunch time score Lancashire 3 – Yorkshire 2
Our boys came out fighting in the afternoon singles with Archie winning 3&1 having been 3Down after six holes to some great golf from his opponent. Ollie’s game was again tough with some good golf and him being 4Up at one stage, unfortunately he lost it towards the end and lost 1Down. Captain Will played well with not more than one in it either way to halve on the last. Oscar had a great time where he was 5 under par along with his partner and 1Down going down seventeen produced a spectacular shot into the green finishing a couple of feet away to win the hole and go down the last tied, and where it finished. Both Zac and Elliot were on form both again well under par to finish their games 4&3 and 3&2. George was in a battle against his opponent and having been a couple up sadly finished 1Down. Seth played some of the best golf this season and at 5 under won 4&2. Jack took out his opponent 3&2 so we had now won the match and awaited Albie finishing. He was 1Down playing seventeen and struggling with a hook into the semi rough left side blocked him out for his second shot thus allowing his opponent to take the game 2&1.
Lancashire 7 – Yorkshire 8
A terrific day of golf with our friends from Lancashire and in the end a very close match with team Yorkshire coming out the winners. The guys were great and there was a good team spirit within producing a good win. It was the last match for our Captain, Will Bracha and Oscar Knowles who both shortly leave for colleges in the States. Will is going to Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa and Oscar to Midland College, Midland, Texas. I along with the Team Yorkshire squad, Board, coaches and many others wish them both well in the next part of their golfing journey and I must thank them both for their outstanding contribution to Yorkshire Boys golf over the years.
