Boys (U16's) v Durham at Kirkbymoorside
U16 Boys v Durham U16 Boys Match Abandoned
Our annual match against the Durham U16 Team took us to picturesque Kirkbymoorside GC on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The team arrived in a torrential downpour which basically flooded the course and surrounding roads of the town!

We had a relatively new side out, with 5 newcomers. We did not get off to a good start, and all games were down to Durham after 9 holes. TJ and Isaac were 2Down at the turn but fought back to tie their game having been 1Down after seventeen. Max Parker & Lucas Skilbeck were up in their game early doors, but were out in 1Down, then 2 Down after ten, but again pulled it back to tie the game – a gutsy performance! In our final foursomes we had Dan Richards and Zac Sloanes who were down after the first hole and remained so until the final hole which they won to tie their game. Our other two games sadly struggled and both lost.
Lunch score 2 – 3
All to play for in the afternoon, but again our first two of Elliot and Lewi could not find their form and they both lost.in the other 8 games we were doing reasonably well until rumbling thunder started around us and the hooter sounded so we had to get back to the clubhouse where after a 20 minute wait we were all walking back out on to the course, some to the furthest point of hole thirteen. You could not script what happened next, the thunder started up again and this time louder and it brough a heavy downpour, so the decision was made to abandon the match as it was now past 6 o’clock.
It was a shame for the boys who all were enjoying the battle as they always do, but we cannot alter the weather! May I say we had a great day with the Durham boys, played in the true spirit of the game with new friendships being born amongst the teams. Although it was abandoned the result as it stood on paper was 7.5 – 7.5.
I must congratulate Kirkbymoorside who looked after both teams extremely well from the course to catering to management despite the weather the day ran very smoothly. Course was good, food tremendous along with the service which was most efficient. Thank you to the Captain Stuart and James the manager and we look forward to returning when hopefully the weather will be kinder.
