Yorkshire U16 Boys Lose to Cheshire U16 Boys
Our final match for the U16 Boys was held at Shipley GC on a warm, but breezy day with exceptionally no rain! The club was presented in a first-class condition, and they accommodated our needs for the day extremely well and I thank all concerned.
Both our first pairings were up against tough opposition with Jonty and Joel struggling from the first hole to lose 5&4. Benjy and Dan had a good battle with their two and having never got ahead they were tied after fourteen, but sadly lost the next two holes to a birdie and a par to lose 2&1. Harry and Ewan took charge of their match from the beginning to be 6Up at the turn on one under and winning thirteen gave them the game. Max and Oscar had a good battle with no more than one in it either way, but came out top with a birdie on the last to secure a 2&1 victory. George and Sam struggled and lost 4&3. Our final game was a little mixed and losing the last gave us a halved game.
Score at lunch was 2.5 – 3.5 to Cheshire.
In the singles the opposition took command of the early games and won the first seven. I must say our boys played well against the tough opposition, but sadly it was not enough. We made up for it in the final five games with us winning all of them. I have to say we have a young side; they are improving all the time and I know they will do better next year.
Win or lose we are still Team Yorkshire, and we work together to become better.
The match result was 10.5 – 7.5 to Cheshire.
