Boys Lose Close Match v Lancs (U16)

Yorkshire U16 Boys Lose to Lancashire U16’s

Well, what a difference in the weather, we had a warm, sunny and cloudy day at Crompton & Royton GC for our mixed ages match against the Red Rose County.

We got off to a great start in the foursomes with Seth and James winning their game 2&1 followed by George and Charles taking a convincing victory 5&4. In our third game of Ollie and Elliot it was slightly different with the boys having a battle in that there was no more than one in it. Arriving at the seventeenth tee they were level, but sadly Ollie drove his ball OB and the Lancashire pair went 1Up with one to play and that’s where it remained. New pairing of Isaac and Cian were never up in their game resulting in a loss of 3&1. Jack and Albie got off to a poor start and were 5Down after 10 holes but managed to pull it back by the fourteenth to 2Down, but it was too much to overcome and lost 3&1. Final pairing of Lewi and Lucas were down in their game most of the round and sadly lost 1Down.

Lunch Time score Lancashire 4 – Yorkshire 2.

Seth was 2Up after eight, then level after twelve, but couldn’t manage to hold on and lost 3&1. George had a great game playing Oliver Coleman with his game not being more than 1 hole in it either way and sadly with a three putt on the last the game was halved. James had a good game and was mainly in charge the whole way round winning 2&1. Charles’s game was pretty much level all the way round until the last few holes where he lost 2Down. Ollie was in form and was 4Up after 10, but then his opponent through 3birdies in a row to turn the game around finishing all square on the last. Elliot was 2Down after 12 holes but played some good golf to turn his game around to win 1Up. Cian oversaw his game and went on to win 1Up. Isaac’s first singles game for Yorkshire Boys was impressive winning 5&4. Lewi couldn’t get going and was not in front during his game losing 1Down. Albie had a battle being 4Down after twelve holes, ut managed to bring the game back to all square playing the last and with both on the green for two, Albie further away they managed par and the game was halved. Jack was Up in his game from the ninth and this is where it remained winning 3&1. Our final game was down to our youngest player Lucas Skilbeck on his first outing who played good golf tee to green, but sadly the putter was not working and a loss of 4&3.

Final score: Lancashire 9.5 – Yorkshire 8.5

My thanks to Lancashire Golf Union for their hospitality and a big thank you to the members of Crompton & Royton GC for allowing us the courtesy of the course which was in good condition.

A great day of golf from our future super stars and although a loss for Yorkshire the boys thoroughly enjoyed the day played in the true spirit of the game.
