Another Great Win for Yorkshire U16 Boys Against Cheshire

Another Great Win for Our U16 Boys Against Cheshire U16’s

Once again, our U16 Boys had another convincing win against Cheshire at Huddersfield Golf Club on a cool and very windy day. The course was in excellent condition and a great test for the boys with the Cheshire Boys complementing the course, stating how good it was!

It was the usual format of four U16’s, four U15’s and four U14’s playing foursomes in the morning followed by singles in the afternoon. Our regular leading pair of Jack Ward and George Taylor came in with a win of 2&1, then followed Matthew Holden and Oliver Caton with a 4&3 win. The York Union duo of Harry Bramley, recently crowned Yorkshire U16 Boys Champion and Tom Pyman also had a 2&1 win with Josh Berry and Louie Walsh winning their game 3&1. Finally Jake Sowden and Luke Turner managed to secure a halved game, with our last pairing of Max Adams and last minute replacement Ben Walker of Huddersfield for Jack Whaley who injured his ankle the day before, battling it out having been 3Down early doors to halve the game on the last!

After lunch jack Ward led the way with a 1Up victory over Liam Gobbin, but sadly his partner George Taylor had a tough encounter and lost 1Down.Oliver Caton and Tom Pyman had easy wins of 4&3, they were always Up in the games. Matthew Holden had a good game to win 2Up having been taken to the last 1Up. Jake Sowden was always Up from the start, but no more than 2Up and found his game a little tougher than expected winning 2&1. Harry Bramley had a good 4&2 win. Luke Turner played well but sadly lost 1Down on the last. Ben Walker in his first outing played well and having been 2Down early in the game fought his way back to win 1Up on the last hole. Louie Walsh had another tough game and unfortunately lost on the last 1Down. Max Adams was 3Down with three holes to play and had a great fight back to halve his game. Finally, Josh Berry played some exceptional golf to beat his opponent 9&8, a tremendous show of golf for those who followed him.

Phil Woodcock commented: “Another great victory for the U16 Boys, with some new faces playing! It is always good to see some fresh faces playing and the future of the Yorkshire Boys Golf looks very promising in deed. We have so much talent coming through the ranks and they all work as a team which is fantastic to see. Well done Team Yorkshire, once again”
