2026 U16 & U14 Championships
This year we visited Oakdale GC in Harrogate for these two Boys Championships.
We had a wonderful day, and the weather was kind to us once again, starting cool, but the heat took over to give us a hot day! Like most courses in the country Oakdale was suffering with the lack of rain, but the course was presented well for the boys.
U14 Boys Championship
The U14 Boys got the day under way at 7.10am and we had three boys taking control, playing some good golf on a very running course. Dougie Hargreaves, Lucas Skilbeck and Elijah Ward were within one shot of each other at lunch. Elijah and Dougie were on 75, four over par and Lucas was one shot behind on 76.
So, it was all to play for in the afternoon, where the heat intensified, but once again they played some spectacular golf where there was no more than one shot separating them. Dougie arrive back at the clubhouse with a 76 to post a total of 9 over leaving Elijah and Lucas to catch him. Sadly, on the last hole Lucas was behind a tree with his tee shot, having to hit out side ways to then put it on the green and two putts for a 75. Elijah had some good fortune when his tee shot rebounded back off the boundary wall leaving him a wedge into the last for a two putt and a score of 75 to win by one shot.
Congratulations to Elijah on a very impressive display of good golf.
U16 Boys Championship
A few players were in contention from the start; however, Cian Lowry took control coming in with a 67, 4 under par to lead by five shots from Harry Mayo, Lewi O’Rourke and TJ Berry followed closely by Zac Sloanes and Jack Emmingham. So, we were in for an exciting afternoon where the champion could from anyone to those players. Harry fell away; however Philip Hirst was fighting back after a disappointing 77 in the morning coming in with a 72 to lead on 7 over. Lewi was chasing hard and Cian was falling away with a few bogeys, but he was battling away to keep his score going. Lewi came in with a 75 for 5 over and clubhouse leader. Cian birdied the seventeenth hole so had a three-shot lead playing the final hole where he finished with a par to secure victory with 2 over par total.

What a fabulous day the boys had with some outstanding golf played. A big thank you to all our competitors who all conducted themselves very well indeed and played the game in the true spirit that we are so accustomed to! Many thanks to all at Oakdale for providing a well-presented course along with great catering for the boys.
