The Pannal Golf Club was the venue for the 2018 Annual Council Meeting of the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs, held on Wednesday 21st March, and nearly 100 people, representing about 40 clubs, attended. The morning seminar was a very informative presentation by Jane Carter, of Golf Unlimited, and the principal aim was to assist club officials in developing their understanding of how to approach business development, and drive revenue. The two sessions, entitled “Why some golf clubs thrive – and others just survive!” and “Why should golfers bother to buy from you?” were most enlightening, and were well received by the audience.
The afternoon Council Meeting saw the installation of the new President for 2018, Eric Wainwright, of the Fulford Golf Club, who congratulated the retiring President, Alastair Davidson [Harrogate G.C.], on a successful year in office. After the customary and, as usual, entertaining, Secretary’s report had been given by Keith Dowswell, new officers were elected. Keith was re-elected as Hon. Secretary, with Jonathan Plaxton [Fulford G.C.] elected to take over the Secretary’s role from 1st September. Neil Douglas [Pannal G.C.] was re-elected as Treasurer, and Martin Greaves was elected as Hon Secretary [County Members Association]. Bruce Light [Oakdale G.C.], Sian Statters [Fulford G.C.], Bob Stoffel [Woolley Park G.C.], and Cameron Thomson [Beverley & East Riding G.C.] were elected onto the Executive.
The meeting also approved the creation of a position of Honorary Vice President, and Keith Dowswell was elected, in recognition of his long and unstinting service to the Union.
