Boys Beat Cheshire at Doncaster
Our first Boys Match in the Northern Counties Southern Junior League was held at Doncaster Golf Club where the weather was reasonable for us with only a couple of light showers during a warm day. Doncaster Golf Club were very accommodating, and it was good to see some of the members out spectating, many thanks to all!
We were sadly without our top players of Jake Walli (Captain), Dylan Shaw-Radford, Josh Berry, and Ben Brown due to them playing in the English Amateur Championship at Lindrick GC and others due to holidays. I invited Habib Khan for his first County appearance as he has been playing some great consistent golf. The remaining players have all played for Yorkshire Boys before.
We got off to a mixed start where our earlier games were like a game of tennis “back & forth”, but the boys settled down after nine holes. Our first game of Jack Whaley & Josh Stephens went all the way to the final hole 1 Up, but sadly having a long putt three putted to take a halve. The next two games both won along with our final game to go into lunch 3.5 – 2.5 so once again we have all to play for in the afternoon.
After a good pep talk at lunch the boys came out fighting and were doing extremely well with the board looking blue around halfway! Then for some reason we began to slip back, and the board was grey with many games going down the last, in fact nine games! This was a nail-biting finish, but out of the nine games Yorkshire won 5 with two halved so a good result!
A great victory for “Team Yorkshire” and we now meet the red rose county at Bolton Golf Club next week, for which the boys are looking forward to.
