Yorkshire Boys win in Cumbria
Our second league match of the season took us over the Pennines to Kendal and the course of Carus Green. A delightful short course of 6050 yds situated on the banks of the river Kent on the outskirts of Kendal. The day was excellent very hot, 26C and a slight breeze at times, ideal conditions for golfing.
I decided to play some of our younger players, and they certainly stepped up to the mark!
George Hanson got off to a flyer partnering Captain Jack in the foursomes nearly holing in one on the short first leaving it less than two feet away for a two to go 1Up, par on the next followed by another birdie on the par 3 third to go 3Up to stay in control for the rest of the game. Boys Champion partnered young Tom Hartshorne and had a tough battle in their game swinging back and forth between the two with them tied playing 17, only to lose the hole to a good birdie. On the par 3 last the opposition played the ball just short of the green. But alas it slipped back down the bank into the water giving us the opportunity to win the hole and bring the match to a tie. Alex and Archie were down in their game until the fourteenth where a par secured a win for them to tie, and they continued in a winning streak to win on 17. Harry and Benjy had had a fairly easy ride in their game winning 7&6. Our final game of Luke and Huey was a tough one with the opposition starting with five threes in the first six holes to go 5Down and sadly could not claw any back to lose 6&5. Still a good start with the score at 3.5 – 1.5 at lunch.
So, to the singles, on a very hot afternoon, Captain Jack led the team out, but sadly it was not his day and he lost 3&2, but the rest of the team played some terrific golf with several of our players playing under par, those being George Hanson, Jake Wallis, Alex Boyes, Tom Hartshorne, Huey Cunningham, and Harry Phillips. The team won 8 games and tied one in the afternoon so very impressive.
I was really impressed with the team spirit of our players and Team Yorkshire is looking good!
