U16 Boys Win Against Durham U16’s
This match was played at the very challenging course of Bedale on a warm sunny day with a breeze that gradually got stronger during the day.
First out in the foursomes was Will & Dan who didn’t get off to the best of starts and were 4 Down at the turn and halved the tenth with bogey fives! However, they then started to produce some good golf on the remaining holes with pars and birdies to get the game back to 1Up after a birdie on sixteen. They followed this with a par on seventeen to win 2&1, a terrific comeback. Next out was Oscar and Archie who started well and were 2Up after nine and with a further two birdies finished the game off at 4&3. Sam & Ethan played the front nine well with three birdies to be 5Up at halfway and continued to take the game 5&4. George and Max played steady golf on the front nine with eight pars and one birdie to be 1Up after nine, but sadly couldn’t extend their lead with three matching bogeys and then a birdie on fifteen secured the win of 2&1 at seventeen. Our final game was a little disappointing as we lost 1Down.
Lunch time score 4 – 1.
The afternoon singles were led by Archie who had a tough game on his hands playing Evan Oliver and there was no more than 1 hole in it until they reached the thirteenth where Evan won the hole with a birdie and Archie lost the next to a par to go 2Down where it remained. Another tough game followed between Sam and Ben with Ben taking control early doors with a couple of birdies on one and two, but Sam turned it around at seven to go 1Up. Then with an outstanding 9 iron shot on the par 3 ninth of 172 yards he holed out for a one! Then Ben was hoping to follow, playing a great shot to be about 25 feet away and holed for a two! So, Sam was 2Up and whether the hole in one had sapped Ben’s energy he could not get the game back and lost 3&2. Will played well and with four birdies on the front nine was 3Up and with another on the back 9 sealed the game 4&3. Ethan although was not playing his best golf he won his game 4&3 also. Oscar played some good golf throughout his game and was never down winning on seventeen 3&1. Max also played steady golf with 2 birdies, 1 bogey and the rest pars to win his game 2&1.
Again, Dan was similar with some good golf of 2 birdies and a bogey to win 4&3. Sadly, George didn’t have the best of days and we all have them to tie his game on the last after a poor tee shot. Seth on his first outing for the team played some great golf and took control from the beginning winning comfortably 4&3. In our final game was Joe who managed to get to 2Up after ten holes but with a few errant tee shots finally lost 2Down on the seventeenth.
This was a fantastic result from the guys and both Philip and Frank the U16 Manager were delighted with their performance resulting in a good win for Team Yorkshire.
Our thanks must go to Bedale Golf Club for providing us the courtesy of the course, which was in great condition especially the greens, for which the boys were praising and to Donna and the catering team for providing the boys with good food. It was an excellent day.
