10-8 Win for Seniors v Northumberland

The Yorkshire Senior golf team secured a hard fought win away at Northumberland with a 10-8 victory at The Northumberland Golf Club.

A Hot and Humid day threatened to break into Thunder and Lightening but the morning play was concluded without incident.Wins in the top game by Parkes and Woodhead and then Jones/Clarke and King/Greaves and a debut win by new County Champion Mark Booth, playing with last years champion Stefan Priest, had the Yorkshire men move into a 4-2 lunchtime lead.

Play got underway in the afternoon but was suspended mid way round as the clouds erupted and drenched the course and the players. The match had started to turn in favour of Northumberland as they led in 4 of the matches including the top game.

Following resumption of play, the top game turned around and had Woodhead and Parkes winners at 3/1 and following a big win from Clarke and Jones at 5/4 the tables began to turn again and with Wiltshire and Kitching winning 3/2 the Yorkshire team could not be beaten securing the 6 points needed to win

The three remaining games looked lost although the County Champions battled hard in the 2nd match and following a birdie on the 17th from Stefan Priest the game went all square going up the tricky 18th but eventually lost out to a solid par from there opponents.

The team have now concluded a run of 4 away fixtures and now look forward to entertaining Durham at Howley Hall Golf Club on Monday 28th July.
