2014 Meeting Reports

Invitation Meeting

The meeting at Selby G.C. attracted a strong field, and a fine day greeted the 84 pairs who enjoyed the challenging and well-presented course.  Some excellent scores were returned, including a 45 points from the Yorkshire President, John Shaw, [on his home course], partnered by the Club Captain, J. Bowness, but this was only good enough for third place.  Brian Lunn [Silkstone], with his guest, J. Radcliffe [Woodthorpe], claimed second place with a 46 point tally, but their score was eclipsed by a splendid total of 48 points from Chris Atkinson [Woolley Park] and his guest, Peter Haigh [Sandhill], earning them first place.      RESULTS

Autumn Meeting No.2

Sand Moor G.C. proved very popular as the venue for the second Autumn meeting, and proved to be in excellent condition when the meeting was held on Thursday 4th September.  Good scores were plentiful, despite the challenge which the course presented.  A fine 45 points from Martin Keightley and Mike Britton [Hessle G.C.] looked to have secure the top prize, until late in the day, when single figure handicappers, Ian Jukes and Damian Simpson [Woolley Park G.C.] returned a 46 points, to snatch victory.          RESULTS

Autumn Meeting No.1

Pike Hills G.C. was the host club for the first Autumn meeting, on 14th August 2014, on a day which threatened bad weather, which thankfully didn’t arrive. Some fine scores were achieved, with a countback required for the prizes.  Messrs. Bowker and Dell [The Oaks G.C.], playing in the penultimate fourball, just won with 45 points, by virtue of their back 9 of 24 points.           RESULTS

Summer Meeting No. 2

The second Summer meeting was held on 24th July 2014, at the Bedale Golf Club, with glorious weather, and a course to match.  Good scores were plentiful, with the President and his partner posting a fine 43 points.  Past President Jay Whittam and his partner bettered them by one point with a 44.  However, this was only good enough for second place, with Messrs West and Goulding [Tankersley Park] returning a splendid 47 points for the first prize.    RESULTS

Summer Meeting No.1

Some 54 pairs braved the threatened monsoon rain to visit the Scarborought North Cliff Golf Club for the first Summer meeting on 10th July 2014.  Many got away dry, but the later times had to cope with steady drizzle.  Given the weather conditions, the winning scores were impressive, with Messrs Woodburn and Poulson [Pannal G.C.] returning a card with 46 points to take first place.       RESULTS

Seniors Meeting No.2

A select field enjoyed both the fine weather and an excellent course at the Teesside G. C. on 19th June 2014.  Local knowledge certainly paid off, as both first and second places went to members of the Middlesbrough G. C..  The 43 points from Alan Whitfield and Neil Tattersall was good enough for the runners-up spot, but Geoff Wilson and Jim Wardle won the second Elysian Trophy with their score of 46 points.    RESULTS

Seniors Meeting No.1

The first Seniors meeting took place on 5th June 2014, at the Brough Golf Club, when some 60 pairs competed for one of the two Elysian Trophies.  The course was in fine condition, but proved a challenge – only one pair bettered 40 points.  Messrs Belcher and Ball, of the Mid-Yorkshire G.C., scored a splendid 45 points, to win by 6 points from their nearest rivals.         RESULTS

Spring Meeting No.2

The second event of 2014 was due to be held at the Horsforth Golf Club on the 22nd May, but had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Spring Meeting No.1

The first event of 2014 was held at the Tankersley Park Golf Club on the 8th May, when 84 pairs competed on a well-presented course.  The weather deteriorated during the day, and the course got very wet, as did many players – some games decided the bar was more attractive than the rest of the course, and finished early!         RESULTS
