Charlie Thornton wins 2016 England Boys Order of Merit

Charlie Thornton of the Fulford Golf Club has won the 2016 England Boys Order of Merit, scoring over 43,000 points, and beating his nearest rival by nearly 2,000 points.

The bulk of his score came from his fine performance in the British Boys at Muirfield and the Renaissance Golf Clubs in August, when he reached the quarter-finals, losing to the eventual winner by just one hole.  He also performed well in the Carris Trophy, finishing tied 8th, in the McEvoy Trophy [11th], and in the Fairhaven Salver [tied 13th].

Yorkshire players Alex Fitzpatrick and Barclay Brown, both of Hallamshire Golf Club, also did well, finishing in 11th and 17th places respectively.

The photograph shows Charlie receiving the trophy from Anthony Abraham, a Past President of the English Golf Union.
